I spent a Sunday afternoon back in November setting up a Blog. I thought "this will be cool!" I'll be able to memorialize great content, articles, relevant information, and share it with hundreds of followers (have to dream big) that would all share my similar interests and likes. I mean, c'mon, who wouldn't want to read the musings and adventures of a Gen X Dad who works in Human Resources and spends his free time determining which movie gives the better moral message to his kids, Despicable Me or Toy Story 3? (For the record, How to Train Your Dragon trumps them all but I think it was aimed more at Dad's than kids anyway).
So I signed up at Blogspot. I worked diligently on the formats, fonts, and layout I thought would be appealing. I added pictures that were pleasant and I hoped captured the spirit of the site. I went with the name CaritasHR (which will be the subject of a future post) and I triple and quadruple viewed it to make sure it all looked good.
Then 2 things happened.
First, I showed it to Laura, my wonderful wife, and the exchange went something like this:
"Hey, check this out, I set up a Blog!"
"What's a Blog?"
"It's a website where I can post content, write about stuff, and put links to other things on the internet that people may find interesting?"
"Like America's Funniest Videos or You Tube clips about water skiing squirrels interesting?"
"No, I'm going to fill it with cool stuff about HR, sports, sci-fi, gadget news, self help, inspirational clips, THAT kind of cool stuff."
"Oh." (dramatic pause)
"So I should stick to squirrels and dads accidentally getting hit by their kids in private areas with whiffle ball bats?"
"You didn't hear that from me..."
So, despite the apparent lack of support of who I hoped would be my #1 blog follower, I pressed on. I set up a Twitter account so I could seamlessly assemble content from many different places. I updated my LinkedIn and Facebook pages to help drive my soon to be hundreds of followers to my site, and I dreamed of all the future accolades I would get through my new multimedia presence.
Then the second thing happened.
The Blog sat...
The holidays, the end of year for HR (and anyone in HR can fully understand that statement), and the general business of life kept me away from putting together the inspirational content I'd hoped to write. On top of that, I was reminded that inspirational content and musings are sometimes hard to come by.
So now a New Year's Resolution later and some time to put some thoughts together, I am ready to officially launch CaritasHR. I plan to put several pieces up weekly, whether it is developed by me or content I find through others. I'm sure I will get more targeted in the content over time but for now I plan to add things that hopefully are fun, interesting, and possibly helpful to readers. Also, comments are allowed so I hope to hear your feedback on any of the postings I put together.
Looking forward to staying connected!
